Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic illness that affects the joints, mostly small joints of the hands and feet but can also affect the big joints. It may cause swelling of the joints, cause a lot of pain, morning stiffness which if not treated, may lead to joint deformities over a period of time. This disease can also affect the eyes, lungs, skin and nerves, and other parts of the body.
In earlier days there were limited options to treat this condition. However, with the advances in medicine, we now have many more options to treat this condition and prevent deformities from happening.
These medications include convention disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs such as Methotrexate and folic acid, sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine, azathioprine, etc; Biologic medications such as Humira, Enbrel, Simponi, Cimzia, Remicade, Orencia, Actemra, Xeljanz, Rinvoq, etc
The acute flares can still be managed by prednisone (oral or injections).
If you notice joint pain and swelling, please see your doctor to get the appropriate treatment promptly.
If you decide to choose us, we will work with you in detail to identify the disease and plan treatment in keeping with your preferences and choices along with the medical indications.
